When we look at what Boards of Directors of health organizations are seeking when searching for a new CEO is there a consistency with what research tells us is required?  Four current advertisements for a new CEO/Executive Director are presented for your analysis.  Your task is to choose one of the advertisements and to analyze the position description based on the following questions:

  1. What are the key leadership skills/competencies the Board is looking for it its next CEO? Are these skills/ competencies consistent with what research is telling us?
  2. Discuss your analysis of the compatibility of the skills and competencies outlined in the position description and support your analysis with at least three journal articles on leadership (peer reviewed articles are preferred). These articles must be in addition to the course readings.  (Websites and Wikepedia are not a substitute for a journal article.)
  3. What do you take from the position description as to the leadership style that would best suit the organization? Why?
  4. What, if anything, do you feel the position description is missing in terms of skills/competencies that may impact on the new leader’s success?
