AACN Essentials Informatics Self Assessment

AACN essentials is imperative when it comes to excellence and innovation in nursing. Through AACN, nurses are able to attain competencies in several areas involved with the practice. Nursing informatics plays a significant role in the health care sector. Among its importance is that it enhances improved documentation, helps reduce medical errors, and improves coordination of care among other things (Darvish et al., 2014). This is why there is a need to develop competencies when it comes to nursing informatics.

From the self-assessment, I actualized a score of 32. This is an indication that my competency in this regard is above average. It is evident that in all the areas involved, I am either good or very good. There is no area where I am poor or excellent. Currently, I usually feel very confident when it comes to the use of technology as opposed to how I was some time back. I am also very quick in terms of learning or adapting to new technology.

One area that I scored high was on upholding ethical standards with regards to data security. While working I always ensure that I am taking patient information and relevant privacy regulations seriously. The reason why I did not give myself an excellent score is because factors such as the systems being used can highly influence how competent you are in this area. One of the areas that I think I should improve is the evaluation of data from all the relevant sources. I regard this to be an important aspect since it can vary from one person to another yet it is quite important when it comes to nursing.
