Differences between the board of nursing and professional nurse association

Board of nursing represents nursing interests in each state and is responsible for licensing of nurses, revoking nurses license, taking disciplinary actions against nurses by following nursing ethics and code, curriculum development for nurses including setting exams. Professional nurse association advocates for nurses and involved in setting ethical standards that are essential for nurses, advocates for nurses’ welfare including nurses’ to patient ratio, remuneration, and creation of national policies regarding nursing profession( Cherry and Jacob, 2014).

Description of Board Members

 

Board members

The board includes ten members. One of the top managerial board members should be a specialized registered nurse. Three of the board members should be registered nurse without specialization. Three of the board members should be enrolled, or vocational trained nurses and the other two nurses drown from nursing school plus one extra community nurse to represent the public and community interests in the board.

Member eligibility

A person is not eligible unless he or she has practiced nursing in the role given for not less than five years. A person must be registered, certified and licensed by the examining board. The person must be of a proper code of ethics as per nursing professional and of excellent communication skills.

 

Federal regulation of health care

Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) is in charge of all rules regarding health care system and provides the government with medical coverage that is subsidized via various programs such as Medicare that deals with elderly and people living with disability and Medicaid for low-income earners and low-income families. CMS is also responsible for the regulation and accountability of insurance companies related to health issues.

Effects of regulatory bodies on health care

Center for disease control (CDC) is involved in promoting the quality of health through disease prevention, accident, injury, and disability. CDC provides leadership, monitor health, conduct medical researches and investigates health problems. OSHA ensures the health and safety of all people working through coming up with policies and also research programs. CMS set standards for protecting individual health and safety and even improving the quality of life. National Institute of Health is involved in conducting and supporting medical research leading to significant medical discoveries thus improving health care access and people’s lives. Environmental protection agency protects human health and environment and is responsible for setting environmental standards.

 

Regulation changes

There have not been many regulation changes apart from few to include Environmental Protection Agency that came up with new changes in handling hazardous wastes by pharmaceuticals such as hospitals can collect and manage hazardous waste from satellite facilities as long as they are under same company (Hospital safety insider, 2018). Other regulations remain the same.

Nursing Practice Acts

This act establishes nurses’ scope of practice and entails information on licensure requirements and define nursing practice scope. State boards of nursing put nursing practice act into actual practice by setting rules and regulations of administration that entails details on qualifications for licensure. Nursing practice act regulates state boards of nursing.

Influence of state regulation on the nurse’s role

State regulation forms the backbone for the formation of state boards of nurses that plays a significant role in nursing practices such as authorizing examinations for licensure, curriculum development which is essential for nursing development, offering legislative advice regarding nurses scope of practice and nursing regulations. These regulations enhance service delivery by making sure that one seek health care service from licensed and competent individuals. The regulations also standardize licensure requirements including the examination fees thus preventing hiking of prices from some institutions.

APRN Consensus Model Act

The Act defines APRN regulation and practice. The provision ensures uniformity in licensure, issuance of certificates, accreditation, and education. The act makes sure patient care is provided as per the relevant patient care standard. APRN practice is defined by the nurse practice act and governed by the board of nursing. Through this act, nurses influence practice standards and processes thus improving quality of care. Competent and safe nursing practice is provided in the law as written in the state nurse practice act and the rules of the state. Regulation is a significant part of ensuring method that is safe and competent. Since the nursing practice has an impact that is crucial on health care delivery, the safety and outcome of patients, regulation of the profession and individual nursing practice are required.
