Sugar Intake

I took the initiative to document the amount of sugar I consume within a 24 hours period. This does not necessarily imply that this is my sugar intake levels throughout since it is just a documentation of a single random day. However, this serves as a good example of the levels I am roughly consuming.

Before documenting the level of sugar I consume in a day, I thought that I tend to consume on average somewhere below 40 grams of sugar in a day. I was surprised to see that on this particular day I consumed around 66.3 grams of sugar. This is like 26.3 grams more than what I had estimated before documenting my 24 hours sugar intake. I think 66.3 grams is a lot of sugar to consume in a single day. This is based on my prior knowledge of the recommended threshold. At some point, I had read that the American Heart Association recommends that women should consume around 25 grams of sugar in a day, which is equivalent to 6 teaspoons. For men on the other hand was around 36 grams, which is equivalent to  9 teaspoons. This is why I was estimating my daily sugar intake to be below 40 grams.

Given that now I have realized I am consuming way more sugar than I was estimating, I intend to make some changes. I intend to reduce the amount of sugar I am taking in a day in order to ensure that it is within a desirable level.  Among the ways to do this is to observe the foods and drinks that I am consuming within the day. It will be advisable that I check the labels for the contents at all times. This will ensure that I avoid consuming products that have high sugar content. Cutting on some types of foods and drinks altogether would be a good idea too in an attempt to reduce the high sugar intake levels.  This will be more on foods and drinks that have little to no nutritional value.

Consuming more sugar than is required is quite easy since the more you consume, the more cravings you get. The reason why I intend to cut my sugar intake level is due to the inherent health issues that tend to prevail. Consuming too much sugar is likely to come with aspects like weight gain, which could easily result in obesity. With the onset of obesity, various chronic diseases are likely to be experienced. Too much sugar has also been argued to contribute to the acceleration of the aging of the skin. As a result, making the decision to reduce my sugar intake levels will end up being beneficial on my side.
